ID-Scan Mock Trial – A Case Study in Justice

ID-Scan recently conducted a groundbreaking in-field mock trial in partnership with Wesco Forensic Sciences, Free State Agriculture, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Judge (ret.) Louis Pienaar.

We simulated a real-world stock-theft case—from animal onboarding through theft, investigation, and courtroom proceedings—to prove that ID-Scan’s biometric technology can stand up as evidence.

  • The trial secured a conviction.
  • Stolen livestock was returned to the rightful owner.

Key objectives

  • Demonstrate that biometric ID can be accepted as legal evidence in stock-theft cases.
  • Provide training material for law-enforcement and agricultural stakeholders.
  • Offer a reference point for other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
